Pewter

For established US business owners

AI developers may pay license fees for your firm's records.

AI developers license de-identified versions of email, files and operational records businesses already hold. Deals made public during 2026 ranged between roughly $110,000 and $1.2 million; some businesses receive smaller offers or none. Pewter evaluates your records, obtains a written offer through our licensing partner and manages the transaction until payment.

How the roles are divided

You make the decisions. We take care of the work.

Pewter stays your contact throughout, from initial estimate through payment. The offer comes from our licensing partner, which signs the license with you and sends your payment.

No offer, no cost

There is no charge to ask

The owner pays no fee at any point, and may leave whenever they choose. With permission, we may request a small sample before an offer to assess quality. We export everything only after you give written approval to the terms. Our approach to records.

Why business records have gained value

The internet has been read by labs. Your business's operating methods remain unseen.

Publicly available writing trained AI models, but the web can't teach them how your company prices a quote, settles a claim or rearranges a shipment. That practical knowledge remains inside your inbox, shared drive and operating systems. Labs now pay to access it: Google won the bid for Spirit Airlines' records at $10 million, while much smaller firms have received hundreds of thousands. Review evidence from the market.

Questions to consider first

Questions owners bring to their first call

Is this a real opportunity or just a pitch?

There is a real market. Our licensing partner says it has paid firms with 60 to 100 people between $350,000 and $650,000; a federal court filing records Google's $10 million winning bid for Spirit Airlines' records. Those transactions involved other firms, not ours. You'll see your offer in writing before making a commitment, and offers to many firms fall below those amounts.

What would I pay?

Nothing at any point. When a transaction closes, our licensing partner pays Pewter a fee. No deal means no fee.

Who handles the work, and who is your client?

Pewter identifies and qualifies the opportunity, assesses your records, delivers the offer and coordinates the transaction. Your licensing partner makes the offer, pays you and signs your license; you'll know its identity before signing anything. Since the partner pays our fee, we don't act as your lawyer or agent. We are not a law firm or registered broker-dealer. We recommend having your own counsel examine the agreement.

Will my data be taken away?

No. The transaction licenses an agreed, de-identified copy. Your original files remain yours, and your ownership is unchanged.

Could clients or employees be identified?

Before delivery, we remove or replace names, contact details, account numbers, credentials and payment details. You can exclude regulated, privileged or third-party records. Some risk remains with every method, so you examine a sample and the process before signing. Our approach to records.

Who may review records before I sign?

Only with your consent. We may request a small sample to assess quality before an offer; Pewter or the licensing partner could review it. You decide what the sample contains and may refuse. The full export takes place only after you sign.

Who uses the data, and what's the purpose?

Authorized AI developers may train and evaluate models, as set out in your agreement. The terms you approve specify exclusivity and permitted uses. Our free owner's guide, Before You Sell Your Data, outlines questions and terms to resolve before signing.

How much time will my team need to spend?

Plan on a few hours of your time: two or three calls, plus a brief inventory of your systems. If an export is required, we coordinate with your IT person or provider, who runs it. Creating new data or cleaning existing material isn't required.

What if I don't know what data we have?

That's true for most owners. Name the tools you've used over time, such as email, shared drives and your accounting or operating system, and we'll identify what's there during the call. To estimate it yourself beforehand, our no-cost guide explains where to find the figures in Slack, Google, Microsoft 365 and a dozen other tools.

Why move soon?

Labs are purchasing now. One AI data company has committed $1 billion for the coming twelve months alone. The value is in the history you still hold: lapsed subscriptions or a business winding down can lead to deleted archives and lost value.

Could your firm qualify?

Signs records may be suitable

  • At least 20 peopleFull-time employees, currently or at your highest headcount.
  • At least 3 yearsOf retained email, records and files.
  • US-basedWork conducted mostly in English.
  • Any operating statusStill operating, closing or closed, provided the records remain.

Records that show skilled work step by step are in highest demand: logistics, accounting, engineering, construction, distribution, manufacturing, trades and professional services. Regulated, privileged or third-party records may be excluded, and meeting these points doesn't guarantee an offer.
